This experiment was conducted for determining the effect of irrigation termination before harvesting and late application of nitrogen on sugar beet yield, quality and root rot during 1993-95 at Safiabad Agricultural Research Center. Different irrigation termination and late nitrogen application treatments had a significant effect on root yield. Terminating irrigation 1 and 3 weeks before harvesting resulted in the highest root yield with 95.92 and 93.32 ton per hectare, respectively and no significant difference was observed between these levels. For this reason and from an economical point of view, irrigation termination 3 weeks before harvesting is recommended. The irrigation termination and late nitrogen application had significant effect on sugar content. While, white sugar yield showed difference in treatment of irrigation and as a root yield irrigation termination 3 weeks before harvesting is recommend for obtaining high white sugar yield. The treatments of this experiment had no significant effect on white sugar content and root rot. Regarding white sugar yield, check variety with a white sugar yield of 11.57 t/ha was to some extent better than other treatments. The results of this experiment showed that late nitrogen application was not recommendable in Dezful region.
