To study the effect of interaction between manure and nitrogen on soil organic matter, soil structure, quantity and quality of sugar beet in rotation of sugar beet and wheat, this experiment was carried out in Karaj in 1996 - 98. A Factorial experiment (3*5) based on a randomized complete block design with three replications was conducted. Three levels of manure: a1=0, a2= 30 and a3=60 t/ha and five levels of nitrogen: b1=0, b2=120, b3=180, b4=240 and b5=300 kg/ha were applied. Half of N was applied pre-planting, and the rest after tinning and hoeing. Pests and weeds were controlled and irrigation was performed precisely until final harvest. Both root and top weight of sugar beet samples were measured and sugar content, impurities of sugar beet root were determined at final harvest. Soil samples were also taken from experimental plots. The results showed that soil organic matter, sugar beet root yield and sugar production were affected by manure. The percentage of soil organic matter in the treatment of 60 t/ha manure (1.62%) was significantly greater than that of 30 t/ha and the lowest organic matter was in non-using manure treatment. Significant increase in sugar yield due to manure application caused an increase of Na and molasses sugar content: showing similar effect to the application of nitrogen. In addition, the results indicated that the quantity and quality of sugar yield were not affected by the interaction between manure and nitrogen.
