This research has been conducted using a split plot design with three planting date and three varieties of sugar beet during 1989-1991. In fall planting: the first sowing (late Sept.) with 47.4t/ha and the third sowing (mid Oct.) with 27.5 t/ha wee respectively the best and the worst dates. Trible with 46.6 t/ha took place in group A while BR1 with 36 and IC1 with 37 fell in group B. there was a time of planting and variety interaction. Trible in the first and BR1 in the third time of planting produced 6.7 and 3.46 t/ha white sugar yield (WSY) respectively. In spring planting starting early in March to late April. There were significant difference observed in root yield, sugar content and sugar yield of different treatments. First planting with 54.05 and third planting with 40.37 t/ha, Trible with 51.73 and IC1 with 45.03 t/ha root yield were the best. The highest WSY was obtained in the first date of planting with Trible with 6.26 t/ha sugar. Comparing the two years fall and spring planting 4.92 and 5.07 t/ha WSY was obtained. If the irrigation water during summer is available the spring planting; otherwise the fall planting using seasonal precipitation is suggested.
