Abstract

This study was conducted at the khorasan Agricultural Research Center in 1993. The aim was to study the growth pattern, quality and yield bariation of sugar beet crop. The design of experiment was Randomized complete Blocks with 4 replication. The amounts of sugar content (S.C), Na, K and amino Nitrogen (-N( were determined. Growth analysis was carried out in Mashhad climatical conditions and the first 20 leaves sugar beet was produce 63 days after emergence. Maximum leaf area index (LAI=3) was observed on August 2nd with 1376 growing degree days (GDD) received. The highest crop growth rate (CGR= 10.55g/m 2/day) and growth rate of root (GR-r=6.8 g/m2 day) were obtained on August 16th, with 1576 GDD. The amount of Na and K in beet root were high during the first stage of growth period but as the root size increased, these elements specially Na came down to the lowest amount. The amount of sucrose in root beet had a positive relation to the size of root. Changes of dry matter in different organs of the plant indicate that until 20 leaves stage, the major assimilates accumulated in the shoot. Then assimilates accumulated in the root and until the end of the vegetative growth period, root dry weight (RDW) remained higher than in other parts of the sugar beet.
