Population fluctuation of Chryspoa carnea Steph in sugar beet fields of Karaj

Abstract

Adult feeds from honeydew, dew and nectar of plants, but the larva of this lacewing is and active predator and feeds on different stages of aphids, jassids, acarina (Tetranychidae) and other small insects and also small larva of butterflies and insects eggs. Aresearch work of about three years (1986-1988) showed that the adults appear in the sugarbeet fields from middle or end of May and their population increases from middle of June. The maximum population density is seen from end of June until early or middle of August. The highest density appears in early cultivated fields. Adults are active at night and are attracted to the light.
