Abstract

Sowing sugar beet seed in paper pots and transplanting seedlings to the field, increased the root yield by 8.3 t/h, the gross sugar yield by 1.32 t/h and net sugar yield by 0.95 t/h. The results were obtained with 99.5 percent confidence, showing and increase in sugar yield. An economical study for comparing transplanting versus direct sowing method is necessary, in the future. Weed control, saving three times irrigation, providing time for soil preparation before planting, and plant density control are advantages observed during this investigation, thus leading us to recommend the paper pot method for sugar beet planting.
