Abstract

·Some study is taken place about the relation between germination and ripeness in sugar beet seeds. It is defined that the seed in physiological ripeness has the maximum percentage of germination but, how can we distinguish the physiological ripeness time?.

1-The color of the seed: Today ripeness time in commercial seed is defined by the color of the seed but, the difficulty is the time commercial ripeness which is not the same as physiological because some cultivars reach to ripeness before and some after commercial time.
2- Percentage of moisture in the seed: The different cultivars in physiological time have different amount or moisture.
3-Day light after appearing the flower: In commercial ripeness is calculated 45 days with 900 B.T.U. this factor depends to environmental condition and also difference in different· cultivar.
