Abstract

In this study, the cost of sugar beet production for paper pot transplanting and direct sowing methods have been compared in the research field of Karaj. For this comparison all costs for different items during cultivation and time consuming were measured. The total cost for the cultivation of sugar beet in direct sowing was 2312400 Rials per hectare, while using the paper pot it was a little more, and about 2433132 Rials per hectare(Table 13). Therefore, in paper pot method and extra cost of about 110732 Rials per hectare, but also 1.61 ton/h more roots with 17.05% sugar content was recorded. We got the same result from the experiments held in cold regions (Hamedan) and saline soils (Saveh). Using paper pot in saline soils of saveh, an average of 7.86 t.h roots with 17.32% sugar content and 1120kg/h white sugar, and in Hamedan  5.08 t/h roots with 15.97% sugar content and 620 k/h white sugar more than direct sowing cultivation were obtained. Consequently, with the base prices of 1993, extra income per hectare of sugar beet in Hamedan, Saveh and Karaj were 68200 Rials, 123000 Rials, and 219268 Rials, respectively.
