Abstract

The effects of early planting on tolerance and yield of sugar beet crop infected with sugar beet cyst nematode was investigated in two locations of W.Azarbaijan in 1994. The first experimental field was located at Orumieh with 17 J2/gr soil, and the second at Miandoab with 22 J2/gr soil. Both experiments consisted of three treatments: early (March 16) mid (April 15) late (May 15) plantings, with four replications. Both experiments indiated that early planting was an effective control strategy to increase nematode tolerance and yield of sugar beet. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference at the 1% level of probability between treatments. Sugar beet average yield in the three planting date treatments in Orumieh and Miandoab were 14/93, 24/56, 44/91; 23/04  28/41 and 45/56 tons/ha. Respectively. Therefore early planting is recommended as an agronomical practice for avoiding the pathogen in an IPM perspective.
